Mini Album with the Clear Cut Punches

Hello and welcome back to the blog today!

My friends and I, together with our families, gather annually at my house for a Halloween celebration. The kids absolutely love it and we all look forward to it each year. To celebrate this tradition, I have popped together a little album using the new Pebbles Midnight Haunting and a few of my Clear Cut Punches. I can’t rave about these punches enough!! My current obsession – I am using them on almost every project I create. Put them where you want them punch and go! Create ephemera or interest on a layout by matting punched areas. They are so much fun and so easy to use. Grab a cuppa as I share a few step by steps and close ups!

The album comprises several folded pages, adhered inside a cardstock folder, which is secured with some tiny brads and black twine.

I started off by trimming several sheets of patterned paper from the Pebbles Midnight Haunting collection down to 4.5 inches across and 9 inches in length. I then folded them in half.

For some of my album pages, I wanted to create a pop up book effect, so I went about cutting some lines freehand, into the paper. Basically, you just cut two parallel lines (the width apart will depend on how wide the image or piece of ephemera is that you want to stand out is) from the fold in, towards the cut edge of your paper. (see image below) One then folds the cut bit over, while the paper is still closed. By doing this, once you open the paper, the cut piece will stand out from the rest of the paper after you pull it inwards. (See last image below)

I created a few slightly different variations of this ‘pop up’ card and then glued them back-to-back so when you turned the page, it would automatically show the next page in the album.

For the cover, I used a sheet of deliciously dark Bazzill Licorice Twist foiled speciality cardstock. This heavy card has a slightly debossed and black foiled dot print, perfect for a Halloween project. I measured out the size, just loosely running the card around the perimeter of my album contents, and then went about trimming it and scoring it using my Trim & Score Board.

Finally, I glued my album to the cover and popped some mini brads into each bit that opens, running a bit of black twine around one side for a closure.

Let’s take a look inside the album…

Halloween 2010 was our first ‘official’ party. Erin was just a little baby so no crazy shenanigans, haha! We had so much fun that it set off a tradition! The photos have been machine stitched for a bit of interest, with journaling done on my Typecast Typewriter.

The next page has a little witchy pop up element. Just a single strip on this one, which has an image of a mummified Josh and I. He was so annoyed that year as his outfit kept unraveling!

I used my Circle Clear Cut Punch to punch a circle into the paper and I then matted it    with some pretty florals. I tried to stitch around the area but I wasn’t happy about the wonky effect, so I cheated and added some stamp stitching.

The rest of the pages follow a similar formula – a larger image with some detail or a second page with a pop out highlight.

A Pebbles spider die cut was given a coat of glittering black embossing powder and sits proudly on top of his paper web!

On this page, I have again used the Circular punch on both the top and bottom sections, to highlight some photos.

Our parties serve up some amazingly spooky treats!

To highlight the spookalicous delights, I have lined up the two images inside the circle punch (how great that you can see exactly where you are punching!!) I just punched the corners off which then created a perfect recess for a circle shape punched earlier.

Here you can see how cute the little Midnight Haunting ephemera piece looks propped up on the circle.

Five years of Halloween fun already… hello 2015!

You may have noticed that I have used the Bracket shape Clear Cut Punch to create a shape, which I then trimmed in half and stamped as date markers. Another super cute embellishment you can create is using the Tag Clear Cut Punch and mix patterns to create teeny layered tags!

The next page has another pop up element. I’ve mounted a house-shaped piece of ephemera and added Josh AKA Death, in the background. I love this pop up effect – it gives a great sense of depth.

What a bunch of cuties in 2016!

I have used my Bracket Clear Cut Punch again and using my image as a guide, punched in to some pretty floral paper from the 6×6 Pad. I lined up the image on top of the paper to see how much space I had to work with for placement of the “Bootiful’ die cut. Once I was happy, I slid the photo out carefully and punched only the paper.

Saving the cutest little Trick or Treater ‘til last! My neighbour’s little one was utterly adorable in his ghostly get up. I cut three slits into this paper and adhered a trio of ghoulish die cuts. I love their sweet little faces and how they stand out on the page!

The Bracket punch highlights a cute sentiment from a sheet of Midnight Sentiments. I hope this little album inspires you to capture any traditions you may have!

I especially love how this album captures years of fun in one compact little package. Enjoy experimenting with your Clear Cut Punches. I have no doubt you will love them as much as I do!

Thanks so much for joining me today.
