Hello We R friends, it’s Aly here again! Handmade holiday gifts are always so special. They’re unique and represent extra love and effort on our part. Plus, it’s always fun to get creative, am I right? I’ve got a great gift idea to share with you today–a Winter Wonderland Glitter Tumbler!
Wouldn’t this DIY tumbler make a great gift for a teacher, coworker, friend, or neighbor? You can totally customize it and even add a name in vinyl. Fill it with your favorite hot drink or track your water intake.
To make this custom tumbler I used the new Spin It Pro Tumbler Turner available at Michael Stores HERE. I love my original Spin It machine, but I’m so excited about the cool features on this second generation machine! The spring loaded arm holds your cups completely secure; the arm support allows for decorating up to 32 oz tumblers; the removable ridged base is perfect for spray painting and hydro-dipping with the cup still on the arm. So cool!
I always start by cleaning my tumbler with a cotton ball and some rubbing alcohol. Then I spray paint my stainless steel tumbler with a white flat paint + primer combo. That creates a fresh canvas and allows your glitter and/or colors to really pop.
Then I mix my epoxy according to the manufacturer’s instructions (about 38 ml total) and spread a thin layer over the paint layer using about 2.5 ml of epoxy. Next I divide the remaining 35 ml of epoxy in half, and mix in my two colors (for this cup white and blue) along with my mix-ins (silver glitter mix and snowflake sequins).
To create the swirling effect on the cup I use what’s called the mica swirl technique. You can watch this technique in a FREE virtual class I taught in partnership with Michaels Stores and We R Memory Keepers. Check it out below!
I love how this tumbler turned out, and I think it makes a great stocking stuffer, don’t you?
Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope this DIY tumbler idea has inspired you to create something special for your loved ones this holiday season. Happy crafting!
