I was totally excited when I first tried Foil Quill and was surprised at how easy it was to use. My Silhouette Cameo is 5 years old and it worked great.
I’ll show you how I created a Baby mini album with a transparent cover. This is a nice gift idea for the birth. The parents can fill it with photos. Below you will also find a short video.
I decorated the transparent book cover with the Foil Quill. First I tried different materials with the Foil Quill and then I decided on an acetate cover. My absolute favorite for mini albums.
I used the Bold Tip Pen for all motifs. I think that with the thicker lines the motifs are best shown on the foil and the wood. The mini album has the size 4 x 4 inches. First I cut the papers from Heidi Swapps new collection “Color Fresh” 4 x 12 inch and then folded them two times. After that I folded it to a leporello, so that you can look at it from both sides. On the computer I created the motifs and the title for the book cover. For this I used motifs and the title from Foil Quill USB Art – Icons and Words. There are many beautiful motifs for babies and children.
You have to make sure that it fits exactly to the dimensions of the book cover. As you can see, I also wrote the name of the baby on the spine of the book. These I have from Foil Quill USB Art – Amy Tangerine. I think it’s great. You can even personalize your project or write your own words.First I created the cover and the spine with the pink foil sheet (from the package “Flamingo”). Therefore I removed the motif from the backside of the book. After the motives were written with the Foil Quill, I inserted the rainbows in the program again (->over edit – undo). Afterwards with the foil sheet rose gold (from the package “Shining Starling”) the back of the book cover with the foil Quill provided.
Finally folded and finished was the transparent book cover!
On the inside of the album there is also a vellum bag decorated with Foil Quill. I also made small tags of thin wood with Foil Quill. This also worked great.
Have fun watching the creation of the mini album:
In addition to the mini album I created a small transparent pocket. Because I wanted to have the motif in the middle of the bag, I first created a template from Cardstock. For this I used the Pocket Maker Punchboard.I cut the acetate into the desired size and placed it on the pattern. Now use a dry erase marker to sketch the area for the motif. Then place the foil precisely on the foil. Using the inches on the mat you can place your foil exactlyAfter the motif has been created on the foil, remove the sketched lines with a cloth. Cut the foil with the Pocket Maker Punchboard and fold it – the sweet, transparent pocket is ready!I also have a short video for you:
I hope you enjoyed my contribution. There are so many possibilities with the Foil Quill. I am very enthusiastic and will use it often. It was a lot of fun. See you next time!
