Fall Luminaries

This weekend was an exciting, fun-filled, and busy time at our house. We hosted a few events, one of which was a homecoming date with four couples (including our twin sons and their dates). We served the lovely couples some dinner in our backyard before they went off to the homecoming dance, and went all out with fancy food, fancy china and fancy decor. To set the mood as they entered our home we decked out the front porch with a festive fall feel, including these fall luminaries.

The luminaries were also placed on the tables and created a nice atmosphere while they chatted and ate their dinner. If you’re entertaining in the evening this fall, or would just like to add a festive fall feel to your front porch or yard, you can make these luminaries easily with some simple white lunch sacks and some of your favorite We R tools. Here’s how:

1. Cut about 2 1/2″ off the top of some white lunch sacks and punch the top of the them with your favorite 2 Edge Punch.

2. Place the second smallest of the Maple Leaves Nesting Dies inside the sack with the cut side facing upward and center it in the front of the sack.

3. Run the sack with the die inside through your Evolution tool to cut a leaf shape window in the front of the sack.

4. Cut a 4″ x 4″ piece of vellum from the Sheer Metallic collection, place some adhesive on the front and slide it into the sack to fill in the leaf window.

5. Place a jute twine bow above the leaf window to finish off your luminaries.

6. Add flameless tea lights inside the bags and place them outdoors in the evening.

Right now you can find orange flameless tea lights for Halloween in the stores–they add an extra warm glow to the luminaries and some of them even flicker! This is a great project for weddings or for any season of the year–just change the shape of the die you use to cut the window.
