Hello again and thank you for joining me today. I’m so thrilled to be able to create for We R Memory Keepers for another year! My first post for the year is about creating something very special for someone special in your life. The Square Punch Board and Acrylic Block Set have helped me create this Do-It-Yourself deck of cards with a Valentine’s theme.
The Square Punch Board made it so easy to create multiple copies of the same size card. Simply set the measurements, insert your paper and punch!
The deck comes complete with a matching box to keep this loved up set together. I have used the new ‘Forever my Always’ collection from Pebbles for this project. I loved the super sweet sentiments and colour scheme.
If one were to use this deck a lot, one would probably be able to remember which number was which colour, but I figured for this special occasion, I would get away with choosing one pattern for each number and then going about decorating the houses differently.
The cards are all 4×3.5 inches in size with opposite corners treated the same. The brilliantly clever new 3 Way Corner Rounder is three tools in one! Simply choose the desired angle of roundness you would like for your corner, insert paper into relevant slot and punch. So quick and easy! I have left two corners sharp and rounded two corners.
I then set about decorating my cards…
Because they stack, I chose to go with some stamping. (One could also use a computer programme to design a pattern and then print out multiple cards on sheets of A4 but then punching them out might be a bit trickier.) The stamping worked out great thanks to my Acrylic Block Set. These are also a brand new product and each pack comes with three sizes to fit pretty much any size stamp. The edges of the blocks are curved so they are comfortable to hold and they also have crosshairs printed on them, making it easier to line up your stamps.
I’ve used StazOn on the cards so the ink is waterproof. A few splatters of Color Shine here and there added a bit of shimmer and colour contrast to the deck.
Here’s a close up of a finished card. If you had a lot of the same alphabet/number stickers, one could also use them instead of stamping to embellish the cards.
The cards needed a box to be stored in, so I carefully unfolded an existing box and traced around it, onto some beautiful foiled Bazzill cardstock. I chose it for the colour and also because it’s a sturdy cardstock and will hopefully withstand a bit of handling over time.
I used my Score Board to crease along the fold lines I had marked and used extra strength double-sided tape (the red one) to adhere it shut.
Here you can see all the cards sorted into their ranks. I have not used traditional suits, instead choosing to use ‘mini hearts’, ‘flowers’, ‘cherries’ and ‘suns’. I’ve also just done them all black, which I don’t think is too much of a problem, but feel free to make yours red and black!
I really enjoyed making these and my awesome kiddos really enjoyed testing them out! I can’t wait to give them my DH on Valentine’s Day.
The little ‘Let’s Play’ banner was typed up on my Typecast Typewriter and added, to tie-in with the little speech bubble sticker (raised on foam tape).
I hope you will give this idea a try for your Valentine (or birthday boy/girl!) It was such a fun way to use my Square Punch Board! Until next time!
