Hello We R Fans! Kimberly here, thinking of you all, and wanting to encourage you with a fun craft! Because we are spending so much time at home, I really wanted to step up the way our deck looks. It’s time to enjoy long evenings around the fire, but with that comes insects. How do you combine the desire to have your space look pretty, but also keep pests away? By making candles for your outdoor space with the We R Memory Keepers Wick candle maker!
Making candles with The Wick is very easy to do and your children can help! Start by placing your Wick on a safe surface and plug it in. Pour wax into the top, staying below the max fill line. Close the lid and turn the knob to high.
Add your color flakes into the wax as it melts. I find this is also a great time to gently stir your wax. A popsicle stick works well. The Wick comes with a color mixing chart, but it is really easy to create your favorite shade, and adjust as needed.
While everything is melting, this is also the time to add your favorite scented oil, or oil scent that keeps the pests away. For where I live, vanilla makes the bugs run. How lucky is that?
While the wax was melting, I prepared my jars. I happened to have small glass jars made for candle making, but I have used jam jars, mustard jars, and various other glass food containers.
The Wick comes with the cotton thread needed to make a place to light your candle. I keep mine secure with a small Sticky Thumb Glue Spot. Make sure you leave the cotton thread long enough to be able to hang over the edge of your jar. Or you will be holding the thread for a very long time…or your son might be holding it for a very long time. Ha!
Once the wax is melted in the top, turn the heat knob to off. The pour handle is located underneath the heat knob. When your container is in place beneath the spigot, turn the knob and leave it open until your candle has reached the level you desire. The wax is hot and the container can become hot as well. Please use caution during this phase.
Set the candles aside to cool. The center wax will settle lower as the wax cools and hardens. If you do not want that look, save some of your wax and add a second layer once the first layer has cooled. Trim your cotton thread once the wax has hardened.
Light your candles and enjoy! May you and your family be safe and healthy!
