Create a Handmade Card with the Singe Quill

Hello friends it’s Kylie with you today and I’m here to share a new card I created with the fun Singe Quill, which you can find at Joann Fabric and Craft Stores. This tool creates a burnt effect on wooden shapes that can be adapted into your project, making the possibilities endless. I was really excited to create with the Singe Quill kit.

Besides an array of fun wood pieces in the kit, there is also a choice of two pens, a fine or bold tip. These pens slot into your electronic cutting machine thanks to a set of 4 different adaptors for various branded machines that are also included. These pens contain a heat reactive ink which gives the wood a singed appearance. They work like pure magic before your very eyes! Before I created my card I wanted to have a little test run on a larger piece of wood. This is a handy tip when you are creating with something new so that you can ensure your settings and placements are correct.

Once my pen had drawn my selected image file, I used a craft heating tool to add heat and produce the singed effect. I find the more you heat the ink the darker the effect which is great for producing variety in a project. I love that you can control the finished result.

With my successful test run completed I began crafting my card using the exact same method with my Singe Quill. I worked with the largest circle provided with the wooden shapes and ensured my image was aligned centred.

I selected the bold tip pen for my design but didn’t want too much of a darkened effect with the heat tool .Once completed I loved how my Butterfly turned out and it was perfect for my card design.

Several layers of co-ordinating papers were layered together for my card. Finished off with some machine stitching for character and texture. My wooden circle was adhered centred to my card and lightly embellished with some floral elements. To complete my design I added an organza bow and phrase sentiment.

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today! I hope my card has given you a little inspiration for your own creating and encourages you to try the fun Singe Quill for some amazing results.

Until next time,
