Cinch Kit: Perpetual Calendar

On Monday I shared a project I made with the Recipe Cinch Kit, so today I thought you might enjoy seeing another fabulous Cinch Kit. This kit contains everything you need to make your own perpetual calendar. You can keep it for yourself, or it makes a great gift as well. (Or you could make two–one for you and one for someone else!)

The kit comes with 33 bare chipboard flaps (7 days, 12 months, #0-3, #0-9), a bare chipboard base, and pre-cut binding wire. Plus, easy to understand complete instructions are included as well.

To create your perpetual calendar, first cover the chipboard flaps with patterned paper. I recommend sticking with papers from the same collection, or the same color scheme and style, since the flaps from each of the four columns will be displayed together at some point and will look best if they coordinate well.

Trim your paper to 2×5 inch strips and round the bottom corners with the 1/4 inch Corner Chomper. You’ll need 66 strips so you can cover the front and back of each flap. Then add the days, months, and numbers, plus any embellishments you’d like. You may want to catch up on your favorite TV show during this step. =)

Next you need to cover your base. Trim a piece of paper to 8 1/16 x 12 inches. Score the paper at 1/2″, 5 1/8″, 6 3/4″, and 11 1/2″. For the inside of the base simply glue on the scored paper to cover it. For the outside of the base, cut along the score lines at 5 1/8″ and 6 3/4″ and then glue the three pieces to the base so the paper fits well when folded.

Once your base is covered, punch the binding holes with The Cinch tool as explained in the included instructions. Then fold the base into a triangle shape and glue the tops together.

Punch holes in all 33 flaps as explained in the included instructions, thread the binding wire through the back of the base and the backs of the flaps, and cinch them together. Repeat this for all four of the groups of flaps (left to right: days, months, 0-3, 0-9). To display the correct date simply flip through all the flaps to find what you’re looking for, and then rotate the necessary flaps each day.

Be sure to check out the other convenient Cinch Kits. They all make great gifts!
