Hello and welcome, Chantalle with you today! I’ve been having so much fun with my Stitch Happy Sewing Machine that I thought it would be fun to create a little travel kit for my DD with some leftover calico fabric I had from the beach bag I created recently!
Our family loves to take scenic drives at the weekend, but sometimes all the car time can make my little girl a bit restless. I have popped together a super simple little travel kit for her to keep those “Are we there yets?” at bay…
The bag attaches to the headrest of the front seat so it’s easily reached and contains a few things to keep her (and possible even big bro!) engaged that teensy bit longer!
The bag itself started out as roughly a six inch square piece of fabric. I used my Supreme Ruler to cut the fabric. I love the metal edge! Perfect for running a knife against and ensuring a clean cut.
I then ran the bag through my Stitch Happy with a straight stitch on two sides (the fold served as the third side) leaving a little bit at the top open, for the hem section where I would insert the rope for the drawstring.
The outside has been embellished very simply with some felt hearts from the Stitch Happy Banner Kit. I hand-stitched some letters on them for a bit of fun. They spell the words ‘PLAY’ when read clockwise. I will admit that the addition of the lettering was after I had created the bag, so I used my hot glue gun to adhere them to the bag. (If I had had the thought of it earlier, I would have machine stitched them on.)
The first item inside the bag is a little notebook, which I re-purposed from an existing book that I had in my stash.
The size was perfect for the bag, so I carefully removed the cover and fashioned a new one from a sheet of Amy Tangerine’s On a Whim, ‘Shady Bunch’ paper. I used my Corner Chomper to round the edges.
Inside, I attached some Amy Tangerine On a Whim Ephemera sporadically onto a few pages.
She can use the notebook to jot down some notes, make a map of our route or play a game with her brother.
Also inside is a little laminated scavenger hunt, which I downloaded from the net. There are heaps of printables available so they can be easily prepped the night before you travel if necessary.
There are also some little ‘Would you rather’ game cards, which I found online as well. These have been laminated and added to a book ring. I used my Crop a Dile to punch its way through the whole stack in one go!
The bag turned out super cute and my little miss loves the fact that she has her own special kit for use in the car or on public transport. The book ring can even be attached to a handbag or stroller!
Fill it with goodies your child loves. (LOL Dolls are a firm favourite in my house at the moment) and maybe even a treat or two or some headphones to keep those ears entertained.
Thank you for stopping by the blog today!
