Beautiful Foil Quill Card Backgrounds

Hello, We R fans! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today! I am always amazed by the beautiful projects that I can create with We R tools, and today’s project is no exception! For today’s post, I opened my Foil Quill All-in-One kit and dreamed of the amazing possibilities of pairing up my electronic die cutting machine with these amazing heat pens that foil any design in my library! Since I need to replenish my greeting card stash, I decided to create foiled backgrounds for simple card designs, and they truly look like they were purchased from an expensive stationary shop. Take a look:

I started this project by selecting three different and simple patterns that would create great backgrounds. I used a grid design, a small cross pattern and an American Crafts flower, which I made into my own pattern by replicating and resizing. I sized these designs larger than an A2 card, so that I could trim down to 4-1/4” x 5-1/2 and have my designs go off the card edge.

It was so simple to foil the smooth cardstock with all three designs! I simply added the cardstock to my mat, topped it with the gold or rose gold foil from the Foil Quill All-in-One kit and used the washi tape to keep it in place. Then, I set my machine to “sketch” the design using the standard heat pen. Pulling back the foil was so fun—what an exciting reveal to see the patterns in shiny detail on the colored cardstock. I then trimmed each piece smaller than the A2 size, and wrapped each one with two loops of metallic baker’s twine before tying off.

Because I love its pretty spring designs, I grabbed the Watering Can paper stack from Die Cuts with a View and backed my foiled cardstock designs with patterned paper, using dimensional adhesive to bump up the foiled cardstock. I love the small amount of pattern peeking out from behind the foiled cardstock. Because I loved my background designs so much, I decided to keep what I topped them with quite simple, starting by adding simple sentiment cards from the paper stack, which I trimmed to make as small as possible.

With the beautiful foiled patterns my favorite part of the design, I also wanted to keep the embellishment simple, fussy-cutting designs like flowers, watering cans, butterflies and birds from the DCWV paper stack.

Just a few enamel dots that coordinated with the paper finished off my cards, which I could not stop picking up to see the metallic designs shine in the sunlight of my studio!

I just love the creative possibilities that have been opened up to me with the Foil Quill All-in-One kit! I can’t wait to try the same technique on a scrapbook layout, but for now, I have three gorgeous, professional-looking cards to send to someone special! Thanks so much for joining me today, and I hope I have inspired you to try to create your own foiled card backgrounds!
